Agentic AI is Doing Real Work, what Happens when it Fails?

Agentic AI fails, make mistakes, stops without warning.

Businesses are handing Agentic AI real tasks such as answering customers, handling orders and writing content. AI can give a wrong answer, include private information in a reply or simply stop working.

Attackers can also hide instructions in emails or documents to trick AI into doing something it should not, which is known as prompt injection. Telling AI how to behave is no guarantee it will. Without a backup, the work stops and the business takes the blame.

Why Agentic AI Failures Happen in Public

When Agentic AI goes wrong, it happens in front of customers and regulators.

Weaknesses in AI are the second biggest cyber concern for CEOs in the World Economic Forum’s Global Cybersecurity Outlook 2026. PwC’s 2026 Global CEO Survey found that 56% of CEOs have yet to see a significant financial benefit from AI.

Regulators, customers and boards increasingly expect proof that AI is under control, and that it pays its way.

Key regulations that may apply to your business

EU AI Act: Now in Force

Banned AI uses and staff AI literacy duties have applied since February 2025. Transparency duties for AI that talks to customers or creates content apply from August 2026.

EU AI Act: High Risk AI

Rules for high risk AI, such as AI used in hiring or lending decisions, now apply from 2 December 2027 after the Digital Omnibus. Organisations using it must keep human oversight and keep its logs for at least six months.

EU AI Act: Fines

Up to €35 million or 7% of worldwide turnover for banned uses, and up to €15 million or 3% for most other breaches.

UK GDPR and the Data (Use and Access) Act

When AI makes a significant decision about a person on its own, that person must be told, be able to challenge it and be able to ask for a human to review it.

How Automation Keeps Agentic AI Inside the Lines

Automation controls what AI can do and hands the task to a backup when it fails.

Ignite Technology’s preferred automation solution, Automic, has been designed as an AI control plane for workload automation, sitting in charge of the AI tools a business uses. The AI can only take the actions Automic allows, so its limits are built in. Anything it produces is checked for private information before it goes out.

If the AI fails, Automic passes the task to a standard process or a person. Every AI action is recorded, and simple tasks are kept on cheaper methods.

1. Limit & Check

AI can only take the actions you approve and its work is checked before it leaves the business.

2. Back Up

If AI fails, a standard process or a person takes over.

3. Record

Every AI action is written down so it can be checked.

Agentic AI Expertise From Ignite

Ignite Technology combines certified Automic expertise with its Agentic AI and Change Consultancy.

Keeping AI under control is a business question as much as a technical one. Our consultants map every process that AI touches, agree with your leadership what AI may and may not do, design the backup routes and set them up in Automic so the controls hold as AI use grows.

For many clients this becomes a programme that runs over several years, and we stay with you through each stage.

How Ignite Technology delivers

Our Client Success in Automation

Automating Population-Scale Processing

Case Study > Automation > Government

A national pensions agency in Northern Europe processes monthly pension payments for an entire population of retirees, where a single error carries immediate political visibility. Ignite Technology has kept that processing reliable and auditable since 2020, reducing manual intervention and supporting the digital-government standards citizens now expect.

Giving a Global Asset Manager's Leadership Control Over Investment Operations

Case Study > Automation > Financial Services

A UK-headquartered global asset manager depends on overnight NAV calculation and trade settlement completing reliably, with faster cycles like T+1 raising the stakes. Ignite Technology’s Automic-based automation gives leadership centralised, auditable control over that processing, replacing fragmented, team-level scheduling with one system they can stand behind.

Underpinned by enterprise consultancy services

Ignite’s Broadcom Automic Workload Automation and Automation Intelligence consultants sit inside the same enterprise consultancy as Agentic AI and Change Consultancy and Portfolio Leadership and Strategic Management, so Automic governance decisions account for what else is happening across your technology estate.

Frequently Asked Questions

An AI fail safe is a backup that completes a task if the AI handling it fails, gives an unsafe result or is switched off. It keeps the business running whatever happens to the AI.

AI guardrails are controls that limit what an AI tool can do. With Automic, the limits are built into the actions the AI is allowed to take, so they cannot be ignored or talked around.

Anything the AI produces is checked against your rules before it is sent outside the business. Anything containing private information is stopped and passed to a person.

Yes. Automic Automation Intelligence shows which processes rely on each AI tool and can show what would happen if one failed.

Each task is handled by the cheapest method that works. Simple rules come first, and more expensive AI is used only when a task needs it.

The EU AI Act came into force in August 2024. Banned uses and AI literacy duties apply from February 2025 and transparency duties from August 2026. After the Digital Omnibus, the main rules for high risk AI apply from 2 December 2027.

Governed orchestration means every automated and AI task runs within rules the business has set, with a record of what happened. Automic provides governed orchestration by controlling which actions AI can take and logging each one.

Ignite Technology is a consultancy that works with large organisations and public sector bodies across the UK, Ireland, Northern Europe, the Middle East and Africa. Our Automic consultants hold Broadcom Knight certification, Broadcom’s highest award for partner experts, and Ignite was named the 2024 Arrow Accelerate Broadcom Infrastructure Management Software Partner of the Year.
