Every CIO I speak to tells me that they’re being pushed to move faster with AI or fall behind. What’s quietly changed in the last six to twelve months is not the volume of AI adoption, but the nature of it. We’ve crossed a line from AI that assists, to AI that acts.

Many CIOs feel pressure to define an “AI strategy”. In practice, the smarter move is often to pause and ask a simpler question: Is our environment actually ready for this level of autonomy?

Readiness isn’t about ambition, it’s about:

  • Whether critical workflows are clearly identified and prioritised

  • Whether humans can step in before impact, not after
